Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion wasted no time in celebrating the achievements of Ivory Coast sensation Simon Adingira after helping his nation to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Adingira was one of the driving forces behind The Elephants’ shocking run to the title and proved his mettle once again in the final when he set up both goals, first for Franck Kessie and then Sebastien Haller, as the Ivorians came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 against Nigeria.

The victory saw Ivory Coast make it three AFCON titles after their wins in 1992 and 2015 with Adingira named the tournament’s best young player.

In a great show of support, the whole Brighton squad sent their congratulatory messages to their team-mate while urging him to finish his celebrations quickly and return to Premier League action.

“Two assists, amazing. Congrats,” said striker Danny Welbeck.

“Two assists, you deserve it mate. Congratulations. Get back we need you, see you soon,” said defender Joel Vetman.

“Very happy for him, it is a good achievement and I am sure he will bring his form back here so we are happy to have him back.”

Adingira, who was named man of the match after the final, described the cup win as the best moment of his life.

"We did it together, we're Africa champions and it's incredible. I've just experienced one of the most beautiful moments of my life, and that's down to the effort of everyone in the team," he said.

The 22-year-old was unplayable on the flanks with his dribbles, runs and crosses that terrorised the Nigerian defence all evening.
