BUL FC's impressive start to the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season continues, thanks to a 2-1 win over newly promoted side Kitara FC.

Striker Alex Kitata's brace sunk the Royals at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru, on Sunday for the Oil Manufacturers to stretch their lead on top of the pile.

Kitata struck twice in the first half, and his goals in the seventh and 19th minutes were vital for the Eastern giants to grab maximum points.

Referee George Olemu delayed the second half's restart for an hour because of heavy rainfall in Njeru, with the surface unplayable.

During the second stanza, the hosts were reduced to ten men following Ibrahim Kazindula's red card in the 75th minute.

With a quarter of an hour left on the clock, the visitors pressed for a way through and pulled one goal back through forward Denis Omedi in the 80th minute.

The Super Eight champions were able to see out the remainder of the game, taking their tally to 21 points, four ahead of second-placed defending champions Vipers SC, who have gathered 17 points after eight games.

Kitara remained in the third position with 16 points, the same as NEC FC, but the former has a better goal difference.

Meanwhile, Kitata is the most in-form player in the UPL and leads the scorer's list with six goals, whereas Omedi's consolation goal took him to four goals level with KCCA FC's Muhammad Shaban and Maroons FC's Fred Amaku.

Abbey Kikomeko's BUL will visit Wakiso Giants FC on Friday, December 1, whilst Brian Ssenyondo's Kitara will host fellow newbies NEC FC in Masindi the following day.
