Obua was selected from a list of candidates who have been linked to the URA job, including former Vipers coach Alex Isabirye and Sam Ssimbwa.

Ugandan football legend David Obua is poised to make a return to the local football scene, this time as the head coach of StarTimes Uganda Premier League giants, URA FC.

This development comes after the URA head coach role fell vacant following the untimely passing of coach Sam Timbe.

Obua was selected from a list of candidates who have been linked to the URA job, including former Vipers coach Alex Isabirye, Sam Ssimbwa, and Abdullah Mubiru.

The two parties have been involved in negotiations over terms of his contract, coming to an agreement this week.

He is expected to sign a two year contract with the Tax Collectors, and will be granted permission to appoint at least one assistant on his coaching staff.

But the rest of the coaches on the current staff are understood to retain their positions on the technical team.

Obua, a former Uganda Cranes star has made waves by securing an advanced coaching qualification, the UEFA A Diploma, which he obtained in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

This prestigious award has equipped him with the knowledge and expertise needed to excel in the demanding world of football coaching.

Prior to embarking on his coaching journey, Obua had short but noteworthy coaching stints.

In September 2018, Obua accepted the position of assistant coach at Maroons FC, inking a three-year contract that saw him work alongside then-head coach George Nsimbe.

Later, he would replace Timbe as Maroons head coach, making his initial mark in the coaching arena.

Later, in the 2022 FUFA Drum tournament, he assumed the role of head coach for Lango Province, showcasing his growing prowess on the sidelines.

This experience allowed him to develop a deeper understanding of the intricacies of coaching and managing a team.

As a player, he graced the pitches of esteemed clubs like Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premier League, Raleigh Capital Express, Wilmington Hammerheads, and Police FC, among others.

His wealth of experience as a player will undoubtedly serve as a valuable asset as he transitions into a coaching role.

As URA FC prepares to kick off the new season, they will face UPDF FC in an away clash at the Bombo Military Barracks Grounds on September 15th.
