The victory now sees the eight-time Nigerian champions sit second in Group A behind Bendel Insurance, with 8 more games from the first week of the new season scheduled for Sunday.

Eight-time Nigerian champions Enyimba started their 2023 NPFL campaign with a bang, going away from home to defeat Nasarawa United 2-1 on Saturday.

It was the first match of the season for both teams, who like their counterparts in the Nigerian top-flight league, had been without competitive league games since July.

It becomes the second win for an away side in Group A after newly-promoted Bendel Insurance stunned Akwa United to a 2-0 win in Uyo six days ago.

People's Elephants stomp hard and loud

The New Jos Stadium played host to both teams on Saturday, with either side hoping to get a brighter start to the new season. It was, however, Finidi George's side who took the lead after the first 30 minutes of things being even.

This becomes the second away win this season - after just two NPFL matches

Barely two minutes after the half-hour mark, Enyimba found the leeway through Elijah Akanni who scored with a screamer after being set up by Chijioke Mbaoma.

Five minutes later, the Elephants doubled their lead, this time, off a set piece as Imoh Obot scored what would be the first free-kick goal of the season.

It became the first time in 2 seasons that Enyimba would score 2+ away goals in the NPFL.

Late Josiah-response not enough for Nasarawa United

With a two-goal lead at half-time, Enyimba went into the second-half confident as the last times they had scored 2+ away goals at the interval, they won the games (also Nasarawa United 1-2, and Dakkada 1-3).

Enyimba have now failed to lose an NPFL match the last three they lead 2-0 at half-time, away from home

They, however, did concede a late goal with Oche Josiah, having the deficit for the hosts in the 88th minute with a header, but it was only going to be a consolation for the Solid Miners.

The victory now sees the eight-time Nigerian champions sit second in Group A behind Bendel Insurance, with eight more games from the first week of the new season scheduled for Sunday.
