Harambee Stars defender Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma suffered defeat in his first league match for Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa.

Ouma was on the losing side as Rakow Czestochowa went down 2-1 away to Warta Poznan on Sunday.

The Kenyan international started at left-back for his new side and put in a good shift, as he made forays forward to help in attack and also kept the home side at bay.

However, that did not stop Warta Poznan from taking an early lead, Kajetan Szmyt, opening the scoring in the third minute and they were two goals to the good 17 minutes later.

Stefan Savic nodded home Warta Poznan’s second goal in the 20th minute to make Rakow Czestochowa’s task all the more difficult.

That woke the visitors from their slumber and they kept pushing for a goal which arrived on the stroke of halftime.

A foul in the box saw the referee point to the spot after a VAR check and Bartosz Nowak stepped up to score and reduce the arrears as both teams went in at halftime with Warta Poznan leading 2-1.

After the break, the visitors kept asking the questions, with coach Dawid Szwarga making three attack-minded changes but it did not yield the goal that he was looking for.

It was the fifth loss of the season for the champions who have now won just two of their last five matches in all competitions and leaves them in fifth place on the table with 32 points from 19 games, nine behind leaders Slask Wroclaw.
