The just-concluded Shanderema high school student was training with AFC Leopards recently but has opted to join Gor Mahia.

Gor Mahia have completed their third signing of the January transfer window by bringing in forward Mark Shaban, who has snubbed AFC Leopards  despite training with them at the begining of the month.

It was initially assumed Shaban would sign for Leopards after training with them and also riding  inside Dan Shikanda's vehicle in a recent clip that went viral online.

The development comes a few days after they brought Enock Wanyama to the club, as well as Sharif Musa as Johnathan McKinstry aims to win his second league title in as many seasons in charge of K’ogalo.

Shaban was unveiled as a new signing on the club’s official social media pages, and was filmed taking part in a training session with the club.

Shaban will be another source of goals for K’ogalo, who already have Benson Omala and Patrick Kaddu as potent goalscoring options.

Shaban has come through the youth ranks at Kakamega High School’s Green Commandos FC an in the 2022/2023 season, finished as the fourth highest scorer in the FKF Division 2 Zone B with nine goals.

Shaban, who recently completed his form four studies, will add astonishing pace, shot power and composure inside the opponents' penalty box that gave him an advantage over his peers in high school.

He has already had to suffer a setback after he was nearly denied a chance to take part in last year’s Kenya Secondary Schools Association National ball games for Shanderema Secondary School on claims of double registration on NEMIS education portal and age cheating.

However, he was cleared of all allegations and allowed to take part in the games, and he scored numerous goals which played a key part in helping Shanderema finish third at the games.
