After seeing prized youngster Gavi suffer a knee injury, Barcelona fans have slammed national team manager Luis de la Fuente for possibly ruining the teenager's future

Barcelona fans have attacked Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente after midfielder Gavi suffered a suspected ACL injury during La Roja’s final 2024 European Championships qualifier.

Gavi was forced off against Georgia during Spain’s 3-1 victory after the teenager went down in a heap with a knee injury.

First reports have suggested that Gavi’s injury was incredibly serious and could result in the Barcelona midfielder missing between six and eight months of football, leaving a sour taste in the mouths of the Blaugrana faithful.

Fans have blamed Spanish head coach de la Fuente for the injury after the manager refused to rest Gavi, despite La Roja already securing their ticket to Germany before the match against Georgia.

De la Fuente rested nine players against Georgia, who also appeared against Cyprus, but chose to keep Gavi and Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand.

This move has been heavily criticised by Barcelona fans and other football fans, who believe that the pressure on Gavi in the national team was too much.

Fans also remembered that de la Fuente was partially responsible for overloading another Barcelona youngster Pedri, after he called him up to the 2020 Olympic team after the then-18-year-old had already played for the Spanish senior team at the European Championships that same summer.

Gavi’s injury, if confirmed, means that the midfielder will miss Euro 2024, and certainly the rest of the current league season.
