Harambee Stars face uncertainty with Okumu, Anyembe's injuries looming over their Four Nations opener against Malawi in hours.

Stade de Reims defender Joseph Okumu and Viborg FF counterpart Daniel Anyembe are in a race against time to be fit for the Harambee Stars calsh againt Malawi set to be played on Saturday March 23 at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe.

Anyembe, previously sidelined for an extended period and expected to miss four months of action, made a surprisingly quick return to the field in just four days.

Meanwhile, Okumu has been recovering from an adductor injury that kept him away from club duties since mid-February, only to return last weekend in a French Ligue One encounter.

The duo's readiness, however, hangs in the balance, as highlighted by Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat.

"Everyone in Kenya knows how many players are missing, and also, at the last minute before we travel, we changed two players again. We also have two players with some injuries.

"I don't know exactly if they can play; that is Ayembe and Okumu, but you will see at the last minute if they can play," Firat remarked, underscoring the suspense and last-minute decisions that can define pre-match preparations.

Despite the setbacks, Firat maintains a positive outlook, focusing on the strength and readiness of the available squad members.

"The rest of the team? I can sit down and complain, but all the players here should be ready to play. I am hopeful that it will be a great game for the teams," he concluded, projecting confidence in his team's resilience and adaptability.

The Harambee Stars are slated to face host nation Malawi in their opening match of the tournament on Saturday, 23rd March.

Depending on the outcome, Kenya will either move on to a third-place playoff or aim for victory in the final against either Zambia or Zimbabwe on Tuesday, 26th March.

The matches against these COSAFA nations are part of Kenya's strategic preparation for the upcoming qualifiers scheduled for June.
