The 20-year-old becomes Lugazi’s 13th signing of the transfer window, with his unveiling comes days after the club announced the marquee signing of defender Savio Kabugo.

Lugazi FC has announced that midfielder Abdul Kalanzi, has rejoined the club, 12 months after leaving the Leaders.

Kalanzi first joined Lugazi in 2021, and his impact was immediate. He played a pivotal role in leading the club to the Big League.

He then moved on to Catda FC, contributing three goals and siz assists in just eight games, as their promotion bid lasted up to the finals of the Buganda Region League play-off.

The 20-year-old becomes Lugazi’s 13th signing of the transfer window, with his unveiling comes days after the club announced the marquee signing of defender Savio Kabugo.

Speaking about his return to Lugazi FC, Kalanzi expressed his eagerness for the challenges that lie ahead.

"Lugazi FC will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career," he conveyed to the club's media.

"Having played for this club, I know just how formidable this squad is, and I can't wait to contribute to the team's pursuit of major trophies."

Last season, Lugazi mounted an unsuccessful promotion bid, eventually finishing fifth despite a slow start to the season.

Much of that progress was attributed to the work of head coach William Kyeswa, who suffered only six defeats in 24 games in charge – 11 wins and seven draws.

And it is such progress that has excited Kalanzi who stated; "Everyone can see that the club has made significant strides under Coach Kyeswa."

"I am hugely ambitious; I know how incredible it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to achieve that. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Lugazi FC," he continued.

Kalanzi started his football journey in 2016 with Buikwe Red, in the fourth division. And within just two years, he helped Buikwe gain promotion to the third division.

He has also represented various teams in the Masaza Cup, including Butambala in 2020, Mawogola in 2021, Ggomba in 2022, and Butambala again in this year's edition.

His leadership qualities shone through as he captained Kibuli Secondary School during the 2022 secondary school championship in Arua, where the team reached the semifinals.

Notably, Kalanzi and his team achieved regional glory by clinching victory in the East African Secondary Schools Championship in Arusha, Tanzania. Lugazi FC has been active in the primary transfer window, and have acquired Latif Kiyemba, Sam Ssemugugu, Ronald Ssempala, Alvin Birungi, Freedom Mungudit, James Okiror, Abraham Opio, Mubarak Mitala, Andrew Odong and Samuel Nsubuga.

Brian Elijah Ssali, Paul Wasswa, Louis Anguti, Derrick Ochen, Muhammad Lubega, Isaac Tamale and Faisal Matovu have signed new contracts.

The club's new season campaign kicks off with a home game against Ndejje University on September 27th.
