UGANDA CUP How Vipers crawled to the Uganda Cup final

Vipers SC will be looking for their first-ever Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup double after failing twice.

Vipers Sports Club will be holding their rosaries tight as they pray to beat Police FC on Saturday in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final for a chance to win their maiden double.

To be honest, Vipers are the best team that has played in the Uganda Cup this season, but I need to add that “they have been the best among averages”, and in some cases, luck fell their way.

The venoms, just like their name suggests, did not have a straightforward movement to their third final in a row; they literally crawled to the final.

The road

A slow start saw them rely on penalty gambles to see off regional and FUFA Big League sides Bujumbura United and Jinja North following barren draws.

They had to rely on a late Ashraf Mandela’s equaliser to cancel out Shariph Kimbowa’s goal to beat Wakiso Giants 4-3 in their third straight shootout in Alex Isabirye’s first game in the Cup.

A commanding performance capped by a super strike by Bright Anukani saw them brush aside Soltilo Bright Stars 4-0 in the first leg of the semifinals.

A 1-0 loss courtesy of Nelson Senkatuka in the second leg should alert the Venoms ahead of the final as they eye to join the double-winning club.
