Barcelona hijack deal from Arsenal, reach agreement to sign new goalkeeper
Barcelona have snatched Joan Garcia's deal as they agreed to pay his buyout clause to Espanyol.
Barcelona set to sign Garcia
The Blaugrana are currently leading the race to sign the highly rated Catalan shot-stopper, Garcia, who is available for €25 million. As Pulse Sports reported, they are ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa and will complete the signing of the Espanyol star in the coming days.
Barcelona’s initial plan was to loan Garcia out immediately after signing him, offer Woijech Szczesny a new contract and keep the Polish shot-stopper and Ter Stegen as their two main goalkeepers next season.
However, fresh reports state that the Blaugrana have shifted their stance and now plan on keeping Garcia with their first team, a move that would see their German captain leave the club.
What Ter Stegen said
The German goalkeeper was informed of this report in a recent media appearance, and he said the club were yet to discuss his exit with him, and he was looking forward to being at Barcelona next season.
“No one has spoken to me about this,” Ter Stegen revealed. “But it doesn't concern me too much. I know that I WILL be in Barcelona next year. For me, the situation has not changed in principle. I’m very excited for next season.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona's international fans have started an online campaign to pressure the club to sell the former Borussia Monchengladbach man.
The fans, sharing clips or statistics revealing all Marc-Andre's gaffes over the course of his Barcelona career, believe he is a weak link in the strong team Hansi Flick is building; hence, they want him gone.
