Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino explains why he did not celebrate wildly following Cole Palmer's winner against Manchester United.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino cut a reserved figure after Cole Plamer’s late winner against Manchester United, keeping his composure while celebrating.

Pochettino’s reaction stood out as his players, the bench and his entire coaching staff went raucous, celebrating was a late winner against a bitter rival. Questioned about his demeanour on the sidelines, Pochettino had the following to say.

What Pochettino said

The Argentinian tactician believes his reaction was the Ideal way a manager should behave on the touchline and anything livelier belongs in the circus.

"Celebrations? I'm not a clown. If you want a clown, go find one! I am a coach,” he said after the game, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

"Passion isn't about being a crazy guy on the touchline I need to stay calm and be analytical because I'm managing one of the youngest teams in Europe. This is not a circus.”

Shot at Klopp and Arteta?

Pochettino’s comments could be viewed as a swipe at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, and Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta as both managers are two of the most animated on the touchline when their teams score.

BeinSports commentator Richard Keys once criticised Arteta for his lively celebrations, saying, “Today is worth celebrating as they've beaten one of the big teams and it's critical as the title race opens up as a result.”

“But I do wish, first of all, that Mikel Arteta would behave much better. He's returned to behaving the way he was persistently last year before the rules were changed to check him and keep him in his dugout.

“'I just wish he'd have a little more class about him when Liverpool handed them the second goal, and the third one, off he goes again.”
