Booma FC and Jinja North United opened the 2023/24 season of the betPawa FUFA Big League on Thursday in Masindi.

Booma FC and Jinja North United once again failed to separate themselves after drawing 1-1 to usher in the 2023/24 betPawa FUFA Big League.

New signing Dickson Niwamanya took only 15 minutes to net his debut goal after a defensive lapse.

The striker got at the end of a long clearance from his goalkeeper Aslamu Muhindo sent in a long ball on the left wing, which was flipped over.

The striker took on Joseph Kiiza into the box, stole the ball with his left foot before tapping over an onrushing Mutwalib Mugolofa in Jinja North's goal.

The two sides largely maintained a reserved approach that yielded nothing more to write home until half time.

The visitors made some quick tactical changes at the start of the second phase with the addition of experienced Hakim Magombe to stabilise their defence on the left.

Magombe seemed to have mastered the instructions to the dot as he won the ball in his area before releasing Johnson Ssenyonga on the same lane.

Ssenyonga dribbled his way through the box and sent in a low inviting pass which reached Salim Huud.

The striker turned his body and fired in but got Muhindo in the right place to stop it. However, the keeper fumbled with the heavy surprise load and returned it back to play for Bronson Nsubuga to smash in for the equaliser in the 51st.

Both teams reverted back to defending with a few long balls that were easily dealt with.
