FOOTBALL Jose Mourinho: The billions the Special One has earned in his career just from being sacked

Jose Mourinho was sacked for the sixth time in his coaching career when AS Roma dismissed him but how much has he earned in compensations since his first dismissal at Chelsea?

Jose Mourinho was dismissed as AS Roma coach on Tuesday, following a poor run of form for the Giallorossi that has left them ninth on the Serie A table.

The Special One paid the price six months before his contract expires and club legend Danielle De Rossi is firm favourite to replace him.

This is the sixth time Mourinho is getting sacked having been dismissed by Chelsea (twice), Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The 60-year-old is one of the highly-sought after coaches and commands a huge salary wherever he goes. That means a hefty compensation package when he gets sacked.

Up to now, Mourinho is estimated to have earned around £80 million (Ksh16.2 billion) just from being laid off by clubs in his career.

Chelsea are reported to have paid Mourinho over £26 million (Ksh5.2 billion) when they sacked him twice. The Special One pocketed £18 million (Ksh3.6 billion) when he was sacked at Stamford Bridge in 2007 and £8.3 million (Ksh1.6 billion) following his second dismissal in 2015.

Mourinho was also handed a £17 million (Ksh3.7 billion) severance package by Real Madrid when he left in 2013 to return to Chelsea and pocketed nearly £20 million (Ksh4 billion) from Manchester United who sacked him in December 2018, just months after handing him a new two-year deal.

Mourinho was reportedly on a salary of £15 million (Ksh3 billion) a year when he joined Tottenham in November 2019 but he lasted 17 months, Spurs sacking him with two years remaining on his contract, after which he was paid a similar amount.

Roma are thought to have agreed to pay him £3 million (Ksh609 million) given he was out of contract at the end of the season.

No other coach has earned more from being sacked than Mourinho with only his bitter rival Antonio Conte, who replaced him at Tottenham, coming close with £37 million (Ksh7.5 billion).
