The result for Monaco now means that they are third on 24 points, three behind leaders PSG who obliterated Joseph Okumu’s Reims earlier in the day.

Kenyan midfielder Eliot Matazo could do nothing much but watch from the bench as Monaco were held by a spirited Le Havre side  at the Stade Océane on Saturday night.

Le Havre began the day nine points and just four places behind their third-placed visitors after an impressive start to the season.

They came close to opening the scoring inside the first 10 minutes when Antoine Joujou robbed Guillermo Maripan of possession and squared for Loïc Négo, whose shot from a tight angle was saved by Philipp Kohn.

Monaco settled as the first half went on, though, and Ismail Jakobs drew the first save from Kohn's opposite number Arthur Desmas inside the half hour. His shot was parried away and Youssouf Fofana sent the rebound wide in the 28th minute.

In the 31st minute, Krépin Diatta then sent a cross in for Denis Zakaria after a smart dummy from Aleksandr Golovin, but his header was tipped over the bar from Desmas .

No more major chances followed and it was 0-0 at the break.

Le Havre started the second half as they had the first: brightly, and Joujou forced another save from Kohn soon after the restart in the 50th minute.

Nabil Alioui was the next to try his luck with a lob over the visiting 'keeper, but Kohn scrambled back to clear a few moments later.

Substitutes Edan Diop and Folarin Balogun had a pair of chances late on that they failed to convert, and it was left for their goalkeeper Kohn to have the final word, saving a late, late Samuel Grandsir penalty after Diop had fouled Emmanuel Sabbi in the box in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

Matazo has featured in Ligue 1 six times this season, assisting once. The result for Monaco now means that they are third on 24 points, three behind leaders PSG who obliterated Joseph Okumu’s Reims earlier in the day.
