Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold has survived a shocking ordeal as a 40 foot-long pylon crashed onto a car right in front of his range rover as he was driving on a wet rural road near Knutsford, Cheshire.

The 25-year-old had to swerve to avoid the high-voltage power unit and ended up colliding with a BMW X5 in doing so.

It was a near-miss for Alexander-Arnold as the electrical pylon lay scrapped on the road's banking, with the huge infrastructure capable of inflicting serious damage if it had fallen on the footballer's luxury vehicle.

The power line, which weighs half a ton, careened down on top of the other vehicle at the scene with Alexander-Arnold and the BMW driver fortunately escaping the incident unhurt.

The assist-maestro was reportedly left shaken with a witness explaining it was a shock nobody had been killed in the startling countryside accident caused by the devastating Storm Babet sweeping across the nation.

Alexander-Arnold got out of his Range Rover after slamming into the side of the BMW and checked on the other road user to make sure they were okay.

His £90,000 (Ksh.16.3 million) black Range Rover was visibly damaged on its front, as it shows missing pieces of its front-left bumper, while the headlight was also broken.

Electrical wires from inside the vehicle's bonnet are visible through remnants of the destroyed bumper with parts of the car shown to be barely hanging on as a result of the impact.

Meanwhile, the white BMW is missing a headlight that is strewn across the middle of the road with the front-left wheel sitting on its rim and a huge crack in the side of the bodywork visible.

Police were called to the scene during the morning hours on Friday and the electrical supply running through the huge pylon was turned off.

Alexander-Arnold was later involved in team training with Liverpool ahead of Saturday's Merseyside derby clash against Everton at Anfield where he is expected to start.

Chesire Police later issued a statement.

“At 10.34am this morning we were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a black Range Rover and a BMW.

“An electricity pole had fallen into the road, causing the accident.

“Nobody was injured and everything was cleared by 1.05pm. We called the energy company and had the electricity turned off.”

Devastation has been caused across the country due to the effects of Storm Babet with a passenger plane also skidding off the runway in Leeds.
