Manchester City advanced past Brentford to enter the semi-final of the EFL Cup.

Manchester City exert dominance over Brentford, beating them 2–0 to advance into the semi-final of the EFL Cup.

Rayan Cherki opened the scoring around the half hour mark with a right-footed screamer. Savinho made it two in the 67th minute, as Pep Guardiola's side made their way into the final four.

Key match details

City took the lead in the 32nd minute with a moment of individual brilliance. A set-piece routine ended with Rayan Cherki receiving the ball on the edge of the Brentford box. He took a touch and unleashed a superb curling effort into the top corner with his right foot.

Brentford had earlier moments of promise but were unable to convert pressure into clear chances. Abdukodir Khusanov looked fortunate to stay on the pitch after a last-man foul on Kevin Schade; he received only a yellow despite Brentford appealing for a red card.

City doubled their advantage in the 67th minute. Savinho’s shot took a deflection off a Brentford defender and looped into the net, giving Guardiola’s side a comfortable two-goal cushion and effectively ending any hope of a Brentford comeback on the night.
