United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted that Rashford “is not in the same levels” as he did last season amidst reports he could start on the bench against Brentford.

Under-fire Man United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted that Marcus Rashford is "struggling" amidst reports the England  forward's starting place at the club is under threat.

Rashford, who enjoyed a 30-goal campaign last season, was hauled off for the second game in a row during Tuesday's damning 3-2 defeat at home to Galatasaray in the Champions League, leaving them rock bottom of their group.

Ten Hag was quizzed on the 25-year-old's poor form ahead of Brentford's visit to Old Trafford and the Red Devils boss admitted that Rashford “is not in the same levels” as he did last season.

"There is the team and of course, him, and there is both,” ten Hag told the press before their match against Brentford this weekend.

"It's normal that you are not always right in the same levels and of course, everyone knows the qualities of him and the opposition knows the qualities.

“If Rashy does the things right and the team is doing the thing right and put him in the right places, it's up to him, we have seen in the last weeks he is coming in good positions.

"Now, he is a little bit struggling but it will pass because everyone knows the qualities. Everyone at Man United backs him, the whole team supports him and believes in him, so I am sure with that confidence and belief with the team behind him this will change and this will pass.

"Strikers, when they don't score for a moment, they need one goal and then they step over. It will come, he is so experienced and he knows that as well. When he is doing the right things and the team is doing the right things, the momentum will come and he will be on fire."

Rashford has two goals from our four Premier League meetings with Brentford. He scored in the capital in January 2022 and bagged the only goal of the game in the 1-0 victory at Old Trafford last April.

The Manchester United number 10 has been named in the England squad for the upcoming internationals with Australia and Italy.
