Xabi Alonso wants Rodri
With pursuits of Zubimendi and Florian Wirtz seemingly abandoned, as both players appear to be heading to Arsenal and Liverpool respectively, Xabi Alonso has turned his attention to a fellow Spaniard. And not just any Spaniard, but the reigning Ballon d'Or winner.
Having recently returned from ACL surgery, the European champion is content in England and not tempted by a move away from Manchester City.
"We're delighted he's back. I'm very happy with how the fans welcomed him, and I'm sure he is too. It will still be a while before we see the Rodri we all know," Pep Guardiola recently stated.
The City manager has complained about his oversized squad, even threatening to leave if players aren't moved on. Real Madrid seemingly saw an opportunity.
However, Guardiola is playing hardball and has made a counter-proposal, according to Team Talk. "You want Rodri? Then give us Jude Bellingham!" A scenario that Florentino Perez is not willing to entertain.
Alonso aims to build a competitive team and address the weaknesses evident in Real Madrid's previous season under Carlo Ancelotti.
