Kitara remains on top in the FUFA Big League with 52 points but only one ahead of Mbarara City and NEC.

Mbarara City sneaked to the second position in the StarTimes FUFA Big League after ripping a slim 1-0 win away in Soroti City.

On a day that fellow contenders Kitara and Jinja North United slipped away as Police sit until Saturday.

Sunday Godfrey headed the Ankole Lions into the lead as they pushed Soroti City near the exit.

In Luweero, Kitara had Paul Mucureezi to thank for the point away for his 8th-minute equalizer that neutralized the hosts’ early goal.

The Sam Ssimbwa-coached side has been lucky in their last two games scoring late through substitutes but that failed on Thursday.

The coach brought in Ronald Kayondo, Erick Muber and Edson Agondeze for Mucureezi, John Kisaakye and George Senkaaba and later on Derrick Byabachwezi Davis Ssali but that was not effective.

Farouk Katongole had been substituted earlier on for Dudu Ramadhan after picking up an injury.

Mbarara’s win and Kitara’s draw coupled with NEC’s dour barren result in Jinja, sees the Ssimbwa’s side remain on top with 32 points but only one ahead of Ankole Lions and the army side.

Police follow closely with 47.
