Nigeria's Austin Jay Jay Okocha and his fellow African legends will promote CAF and African football in their roles as Ambassadors.

Nigerian football legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha and three other African legends have become the first to sign up for CAF’s Ambassadors program.

Pulse Sports can report that Jay Jay Okocha, Asamoah Gyan, El Hadji Diouf, and Ahmed Hassan have registered to form the newly created program from the African football governing body.

Okocha joins CAF program

Nigeria’s Jay Jay Okocha is regarded as one of the most naturally gifted football players to have come out of the continent.

While the 50-year-old did not win the African Footballer of the Year, he entertained Africans and the world with his playmaking and dribbling skills.

Okocha also made Nigeria proud as he won the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, with the Super Eagles in 1994 and was part of the heroic Dream Team I team that won an Olympic gold medal for Nigeria two years after the AFCON glory.

According to a statement from CAF, the Nigerian legend and other football legends, community role models and other popular personalities join forces to form the Ambassadors programme to promote football in the continent.

“Their role will include promoting CAF and African football,” CAF stated in a statement on its official website.

CAF added that Jay Jay Okocha and others will also play an important role in other activities including competitions, charity initiatives, and commercial and social events amongst others.

El-Hadji Diouf was the star of the 2002 World Cup for Senegal.

More on the Ambassadors Program

The newly established program is expected to open CAF and its activities to improve football on the continent to new opportunities with further inclusion of icons from other fields.

Per CAF, more connections with legends and celebrities will see the Ambassadors program open up new streams of revenue for the body and also enhance its engagement with fans and other stakeholders globally.
