The sugar millers lost their key players of last season but new coach Godfrey 'Solo' Oduor has brought in some fresh faces and pledged to elevate local football talents

Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Godfrey 'Solo' Oduor is on a mission to reshape his team and propel them to greater heights in the upcoming 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

The sugar millers, who secured a commendable fourth-place finish last season, faced a daunting challenge as they bid farewell to a staggering 20 players at the close of the last season.

However, Solo remains undaunted, exuding confidence in the club's ability to tap into the rich football talent pool of the western region to create a formidable new squad.

With a mere 10 days left until the commencement of the 2023/24 season on August 26, Solo is steering the club through an ambitious process of player recruitment

"We hope to have a successful campaign next season, and the players coming in will rise to the occasion and prove themselves," Solo stated with conviction in an interview with Pulse Sports.

The transition in coaching leadership saw Solo stepping into the shoes of Salim Babu, who ventured to Kenya Police to assume the role of assistant coach.

Solo, armed with his vision for a rejuvenated Nzoia FC, is primed to demonstrate his adeptness at identifying potential stars.

"Before the start of the season, we will have announced the new young faces," Solo revealed, hinting at the imminent arrival of promising talents that are set to grace the football field.

Solo's recruitment strategy is rooted in a commitment to nurturing budding talent and has expressed his belief in the immense reservoir of football potential within the region.

"We have talent on this side of Kenya, and I have not gone far into recruitment. For us, we have a policy of giving young players a chance," he concluded.

The buzz around Nzoia's fresh lineup is steadily building as Solo prepares to unveil a batch of new players.

A meticulous scouting process has led to the identification of 20 individuals who have caught the coach's discerning eye.

These potential game-changers will be officially added to the team roster at the close of the transfer window on September 15, 2023.

Among the players who bid farewell to the sugar millers are notable figures like James Mwangi, Humphrey Katasi, who clinched the joint Golden Glove award in the 2022/23 season, as well as Vincent Mahiga, Randy Bakari, Hassan Beja, and Boniface Munyendo.

However, the core of the team remains intact with players such as Benson Mangala, Omuse Daniel, Moses Mwale, Steve Otieno, Harun Thomas, Ian Simiyu, Wekesa Elisha, Emanuel Esekon, Dan Wafula, and Leonard Kasembeli continuing to lend their expertise to the club's cause.
