Atletico Madrid have officially announced their acquisition of Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman.
LALIGA giants Atletico Madrid have officially completed the acquisition of Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman. He was unveiled to their fans today, Monday, February 2nd.
The 28-year-old singed a four-and-a-half year deal, which effectively ties him to Los Rojiblancos until 2030. He is expected to debut for Atletico Madrid' in the midweek Copa del Rey Clash against Real Betis.
Atletico Madrid's statement
Pulse Sports reported that Ademola Lookman made a move to Atletico Madrid in LALIGA over joining his countrymen Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu in the Turkish Super League, after both clubs matched Atalanta's €40 million package ask.
The Madrid-based outfit have moved quickly to make the move official, as they reportedly want Lookman available for Thursday's match against the Heliopolitans at La Cartuja.
"Our club and Atalanta have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Nigerian footballer, who will wear the red and white jersey for the remainder of this season and the next four," the statement read.
"Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ademola Lookman, who has signed for our club until June 30, 2030.
"A versatile and dynamic 28-year-old right-footed player, he can play as a second striker or as a winger on either flank – either on his weaker or natural foot – where he makes the most of his speed and dribbling ability."
Atletico Madrid are currently nine points adrift of league leaders Barcelona, and eight behind second-placed Real Madrid. Rojiblancos will hope Lookman can produce a similar number to the superstars on either team, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe.
