Seyi Olofinjana: Ex-Super Eagles star back in Nigeria with European scouts to unearth hidden gems

Former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana is in Nigeria with some European scouts on a quest to find the next big star from Nigeria.

The search for the next Nigerian superstar has started in Ogun State with former Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana present. 

Olofinjana was spotted in Ikenne as the Scouting Tournament Nigeria kicked off at the Remo Stadium, home of NPFL side, Remo Stars.

The former Nigeria Super Eagles midfielder was spotted with some scouts from Europe at the venue on Monday morning.

The 43-year-old was one of the mainstays in the Nigeria Super Eagles after making his international debut in 2002.

Olofinjana went on to represent Nigeria in various major competitions, including three appearances at the AFCON.

He retired in 2015 and went into administration when he joined Premier League side, Wolves’ academy as Loans Pathway Manager.

Olofinjana left the club after six years for Grasshopper Club in 2021, where he became the club’s sporting director before he resigned last summer. 

Scouting Tournament

After his time working with European clubs following his retirement from football, the graduate of Chemical Engineering is back in Nigeria.

Olofinjana in the company of scouts from Europe have found their way in Ikenne to find the next big star for Nigeria.

The former Super Eagles defensive midfielder arrived the Remo Stadium in his capacity as the director of Imperial Football Club, who are behind the scouting tournament.

The tournament involves some of the best academies in the country led by Remo Stars’ Beyond Limit and Plateau United’s Mees Palace, two teams who competed in the final of the 2023 LALIGA/NPFL Under-15 Promises.
