The league that has now permanently shifted to the FUFA Technical Centre rests this weekend before heading for match day three next Sunday.

Winning three consecutive league titles is a sign of complete domination but St. Lawrence University beach soccer head coach Davis Nnono feels that comes with a lot of pressure.

The university side has so far played one game, a 5-2 victory over MS Sand Lions but sit third with five of the 11 teams playing twice.

Ordinarily, Nnono would be feeling at ease with the absence of his tough competitor Charles Ayiekoh who left for a plum job at Simba Women in Tanzania but he is not.

“He was a good and worthy competitor,” Nnono told Pulse Sports, “but that [Ayiekoh’s departure] doesn’t mean the level of football has dipped, and the teams are really good this time.

“I see very good improvements in Jinja Lions Mutoola and several others. This time, we have to fight very hard if we are to defend our trophy because the teams are ready and will face us with more determination than before,” he added.

Nnono managed to retain the services of last season’s most valuable player Baker Lukooya, veterans Sulaman Ochero, and Rica Byaruhanga and added in Ronald Magwali to beef up his attacking options.

The quintet were all on target in their first game when they thumped the Sand Lions 5-2.

Mutoola who have so far scored nine goals in their two wins lead the men’s table followed by Jinja Lions.
