World football governing body FIFA is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Nigeria’s Women’s national football team, Super Falcons, get their FIFAWWC money.
The Super Falcons were one of three teams to make Africa proud at the 2023 FIFAWWC co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.

Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa all made it to the round of 16, the first time three countries from Africa will record such a milestone.

The Falcons went into the ninth FIFAWWC at the back of hopelessness following disagreements between the team’s coach Randy Waldrum and his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

Waldrum battled the NFF in a war of words as the American manager blasted the national body for his team’s poor preparations for the World Cup and issues bordering on finance.
However, the Super Falcons overcame these off-the-pitch distractions to make Nigerians proud in Australia.
The Waldrum-led Falcons against all odds made it out of a group of death that included Olympic champions Canada and co-hosts Australia en route to a place in the knockout stages.

Nigeria Super Falcons came within two penalties of a place in the quarter-finals after a brave display against European champions England in the round of 16.
FIFA reassure Super Falcons of their money
Following the war between the team and the NFF which preceded the world cup and concerns that the team won’t get their hands on the cash rewards they have earned, the Falcons received an assurance from FIFA that they will get their money.

As reported by Pulse Sports, FIFA's Secretary-General Fatma Samoura informed the players that they need not worry about any problems with claiming their World Cup prize money.

Weeks after that statement by Samoura, FIFA has now appointed a top official to follow up as promised.

According to Nigerian journalist, Osasuo Obayiuwana, the world governing body has taken a decisive step by naming FIFA’s director for Africa, Gelson Fernandes, to ensure that the ladies receive their cash from the NFF.
“I am reliably informed that a top @FIFAcom official has been asked, again, to keep a specific eye on the #FIFAWWC payments going to #Nigeria, to ensure that the $1.380m - due to the 23 @NGSuper_Falcons players that were in #Aus - gets to them. Each player is to get $60000 from the pot,” Osasuo posted on his X.com account.

“FIFA’s Director for Africa, has, according to what @fatma_samoura told me, been assigned this task throughout #Africa, where there are concerns. He’s going to need hawk eyes during this assignment,” he added.
Samoura, who is from Senegal, spent time with the Super Falcons in Australia and praised them for their achievements at the FIFAWWC.

“Your presence here means one thing because you have been consistently playing this World Cup since the first edition, [it shows] that you are the best team in Africa.”
