The Startimes Uganda Premier League is set to kick off on September 5th.
The 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League is set to commence on September 5th, as previously announced, UPL CEO Bernard Bainamani has reaffirmed.
In an effort to avoid a last-minute rush, FUFA released the dates and deadlines for the club licensing procedures in early April.
Bernard Bainamani, the chief executive officer of the Uganda Premier League, has reassured us that the preparations are progressing smoothly and confirms the plan to release the draft fixtures on July 5th, which is 26 days ahead of the original schedule.

For the third year running, Al Ahly has maintained its dominancy as the best club on the continent, reaching four finals and winning three of those.
“The club licensing process, being conducted by FUFA, is running smoothly,” Bainamani told Pulse Sports, adding that, “if everything goes according to plan, we may only need to adjust the release of draft and final fixtures to earlier dates to ensure a seamless planning process for all stakeholders.”
Licensing process
The process commenced on April 12th, with FUFA providing the clubs with a detailed timeline and holding an orientation meeting.
The clubs are submitting their personnel, administrative, and sporting requirements.
The exercise will be conducted simultaneously with the site and stadium inspection visits which are underway and expected to conclude by the end of June.
The newly-promoted clubs Kitara, Mbarara City and NEC will undergo their orientation on July 5th and then the evaluation a fortnight later.
Player Registration
The 2022/23 season was grossly affected by the lack or failure to meet the requirements, leading to Kyetume's demotion.
According to FUFA, Kyetume failed to present the minimum number of players to be registered.
“UPL & FBL Clubs must make final submission of all physical documents for all the Club Licensing Core Process minimum requirements and a minimum of eighteen players approved on the system, of which two are goalkeepers,” the new measures read. The deadline for this is July 17th.

League kick-off
As stated, the UPL will kick off on September 5th, followed by Big League nine days later, then the FUFA Women Super and Elite leagues on September 24th and October 22nd, respectively.
The draft fixtures will arrive on July 31st, and the final on August 5th.
