Top ten African clubs in Africa revealed,; Vipers in 41

The top-ranked African clubs for the 2022/23 season have been confirmed after Al Ahly beat Wydad Casablanca to win the CAF Champions League for a record 11th title.

For the third year running, Al Ahly has maintained its dominancy as the best club on the continent, reaching four finals and winning three of those.

Al Ahly won 2019/20, 2020/21 and this season after snatching it back from the Moroccans who beat them last year.

Wydad maintains third place, and Esperance (Tunisia) and Raja Casablanca are in the top five.

Tanzania’s Simba follows closely in 9th after stopping at the quarterfinal stage. Their Dar Es Salaam rivals Young Africans, ranked 18th.

Yanga, as they’re commonly known, were arguably the season's surprise package, going all the way to the final of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Vipers, at 41, is the only ranked team from Uganda. The Venoms reached the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time in their history, becoming only the second team to achieve that.

How the points are weighted

It is simple! The winner of the Champions League earns 6 points, while the runners-up gets five.

The semifinalists and quarterfinalists each earn four and three, while those who finished third and last in the groups get two and one, respectively.

The winners of the Confederation Cup earn five and the value reduces by one until the third team in the group; the last in the group get 0.5.

Now, after finding that, the points are multiplied by five for the current season, in this case, 2022/23.

The value reduces four, three, two and one for each of the previous four seasons.
