Uganda Cranes have their work cut out to advance to the quarter-final of CHAN 2024 as they take on a tricky South Africa in their final group stage match on Sunday.

Uganda Cranes have it all to do to advance to the 2024 African Nations Championships quarter-final after seeing co-hosts Kenya and Tanzania sail through with a match to spare.

The Cranes face South Africa at a sold-out Namboole Stadium on Monday and must win to be certain of a place in the last eight as each of the top three teams have a chance.

Uganda, who started with a 3-0 loss to Algeria before beating Guinea 3-0 and Niger 2-0 have six points but South Africa and Algeria are breathing down their necks as they have five points each heading into the final group stage matches.

A draw will be enough for Uganda against a tough South African team but that could see them finish second in Group C and end up with a tough opponent in the quarter-final as Sudan and Senegal are poised to make it through from Group D.

What Should Uganda Cranes Expect?

That therefore means the margins are fine for the Cranes and the need to impress the sold-out crowd also means a win is vital.

South Africa, meanwhile, failed to seal their place in the quarter-final on Friday after a goalless draw and know only a win will get them over the line, hence the tough task for Uganda.

Bafana Bafana had forced a 1-1 draw with Algeria before beating Guinea 2-1 and their good defensive record, coupled with an ability to create chances, should put them in good stead if they can finish off their opportunities.

That makes Uganda’s job tough as they will not want to be the co-hosts who do not make it to the last eight when Tanzania and Kenya are already through.
