The Uganda Cranes contingent is safe after a major earthquake hit Morocco on Friday night, FUFA has confirmed.

The earthquake hit several villages in the Atlas Mountains located about 70km southwest city of Marrakech.

FUFA communications director Ahmed Hussein confirmed to Pulse Sports that the team had already left Morocco and was safe.

The city was the host of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final Group F qualifier between Uganda Cranes and Niger.

“The entire Contingent left Marrakech on Thursday,” Hussein confirmed, adding that “only the National Teams’ Officer Mukatabala Paul stayed behind as he was finalizing the usual travel and accommodation protocols of the team until the last player or official of the team leaves the official team Hotel.”
