It is understood that part of the negotiations between the club and the former Cranes captain, Obua was given the authority to select at least one assistant coach to join the coaching staff.

StarTimes Uganda Premier League club URA FC has parted ways with two members of its coaching staff as it clears way for the arrival of David Obua as its new coach.

Pulse Sports Uganda understands that Fred Muhumuza who has been serving as the interim head coach has been relieved of his duties at the club.

The shakeup of the coaching team has also seen Strength and conditioning coach Okuba Byron asked to step aside from the role.

Muhumuza who also served as an assistant to former coach Sam Timbe, will see his role taken up by a new assistant who will be named by the incoming coach.

However, the club is expected to retain most of its existing coaching staff, ensuring a smooth transition.

Muhumuza had taken charge of the team since the passing of Timbe, and led them to the FUFA Super 8 final, though they lost to BUL FC.

It is understood that part of the negotiations between the club and the former Cranes captain, Obua was given the authority to select at least one assistant coach to join the coaching staff.

Also, sources within the club indicate that Muhumuza had grown less popular within the squad, with some believing that their goalless draw against UPDF on Sunday was the biggest indicator of that rift.

Earlier, Pulse Sports Uganda reported of a growing rift between Muhumuza and midfielder Saidi Kyeyune, who was suspended over issues of indiscipline.

Obua is expected to be unveiled as head coach for the Tax Collectors soon, on a two-year contract, but whether that comes before their first home game of the season remains unclear.

However, he was present at the Bombo Grounds as URA drew 0-0 away to UPDF in their league opener.

In September 2018, Obua accepted the position of assistant coach at Maroons FC, inking a three-year contract that saw him work alongside then-head coach George Nsimbe.

Later, he would replace Nsimbe as Maroons head coach, making his initial mark in the coaching arena.

Later, in the 2022 FUFA Drum tournament, he assumed the role of head coach for Lango Province, showcasing his growing prowess on the sidelines.
