The two giants have been paired to face each other in the round of 32, to be played on Wednesday at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

Sports Club Villa head coach Jackson Magera has fired the first shot by claiming that his team has what it takes to topple BUL in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The two giants have been paired to face each other in the round of 32, to be played on Wednesday at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. BUL beat Vipers in the Cup to claim their first major trophy last season.

“It will be a tough fixture because they’re the holders, but that motivates us because if we want to be the best, then we must beat the best,” Magera told Pulse Sports.

The Jogoos were across the Nile on Saturday to face another club from Jinja, Gaddafi FC, in a heated league match that ended 1-1. Magera believes Gaddafi’s game was the best precursor ahead of the Cup fixture.

“Teams from Jinja are very physical, just like we saw against Gaddafi. We expect the same approach from BUL, but we shall adjust our tactics to better them because we can."

"We want to beat them and advance so that we can keep our hopes of winning something this season alive,” he added.

The two sides met at the quarterfinal stage in BUL’s road to glory last season. The holders won the match 2-1 after extra time.

Villa last won the Cup in 2015 after a controversial final where they beat KCCA in replayed final. The Jogoos have nine Uganda Cup titles.

They previously won it in 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 2000, 2002, 2008-09 and 2014-15 seasons.
