NEC coach Hussein Mbalangu has sent a warning to his Vipers counterpart Fred Muhumuzza ahead of the two teams’ top of the table clash in Kitende on Thursday.
Vipers co-coach Fred Muhumuzza is unfazed by the threat that NEC pose ahead of their top of the table clash in the Ugandan Premier League on Thursday.
Vipers and NEC are separated by just two points ahead of the match, which will see the winner take an advantage in the title race, with six games remaining.
The champions had been enjoying a four-point lead until last weekend when Express forced them into a 2-2 draw, handing NEC a route back into contention.
Now, heading into Thursday’s match, NEC can go top if they win while Vipers will take a five-point lead with victory, making it a very high stakes match.
NEC coach Hussein Mbalangu fired a warning to their counterparts, expressing his confidence of collecting maximum points.
“We shall go there and beat him (Vipers). I am Hussein Mbalangu, Men,” Mbalangu said, as quoted by Kawowo.
However, Muhumuzza sees nothing special about the game and is backing his players to do the job.
“The game has been hyped but it’s a game like any other Uganda Premier League game. We know a lot has been said, but the game of football is a practical one,” he told the same outlet.
“We have worked on the mentality, character of the players and good enough, we have the players that have been there before and know what it takes to play in these closing games.”
Vipers have 53 points from 23 matches, two ahead of NEC, who have also played the same number of ties, ahead of the 7pm kick off at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
