Harambee Stars prospect Onyego featured for the entire duration of the match but could not help Bristol City avoid defeat to West Brom in the English Championship.

Harambee Stars prospect Zak Vyner Onyego faced a tough challenge as Bristol City suffered defeat to promotion-chasing West Brom in the English Championship on Saturday.

West Brom extended their unbeaten run to six games with a commanding 2-0 victory against Bristol City in a Saturday showdown.

As halftime approached, the teams appeared evenly matched, but it was the Baggies who managed to break the deadlock just before the break.

A display of superb, swift play around the edge of the area culminated in Tom Fellows seizing the opportunity and driving a low strike past Bristol City's goalkeeper Max O’Leary. This goal marked Fellows' fifth for West Brom in blue and white.

The hosts didn't stop there, doubling their advantage just five minutes into the second half. Another impressive display of teamwork, this time involving Mikey Johnston and Townsend, paved the way for Jed Wallace to calmly tap the ball into the net, securing a 2-0 lead for West Brom.

Despite Bristol City's efforts to mount a comeback in the latter stages of the game, with Cameron Pring and Mark Sykes missing opportunities, and a long-range effort from Taylor Gardner-Hickman needing to be dealt with by the West Brom goalkeeper, their attempts fell short.

Onyego, born to a Kenyan father and an English mother, put in a commendable performance, earning a six out of 10 rating for his efforts.

While the defeat was disappointing for Bristol City, the match served as another valuable learning experience for Onyego as he continues to develop as a footballer.
