Kobs chairman Stone Luggya took to social media to suggest the team does not expect Saturday’s result to stand.

Platinum Credit Heathens’ 19-12 win over Kobs on Saturday in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League will only be remembered for how it ended rather than what happened during the game.

Referee Ronald Wutimba awarded Heathens a penalty deep into the Kobs’ 22 area, and the defending champions had the opportunity to convert and win the tie.

But protests from Kobs’ players ensured there was no penalty taken. The players refused to retreat to allow Heathens to take what was a penalty right in front of the posts.

Kobs’ winger Mark Osuna was adjudged to have ripped the ball out of Santos Ssenteza’s hands after he had hit the deck but the players in blue thought otherwise.

And video clips show that the ball was ripped before a ruck was formed by the team in yellow.

Kobs players protested the call and forced the match officials into lengthy deliberations that yielded no results.

The referee then went under the posts to indicate a penalty try for the hosts and, after that, blew the final whistle to send Heathens players and fans into wild celebrations while Kobs walked off in disbelief.

While that was the end of the game, the story is just unfolding.

Kobs chairman Stone Luggya took to social media to suggest the team does not expect Saturday’s result to stand.

“Ultimate emotional immaturity of the ref (who we officially complained about last year) to award a “penalty try” with no recourse to the law but because his ego has been injured by fans,” a fuming Luggya Tweeted after the game.

“@UgandaRugby can keep their league if this blatant and frivolous score holds,” he added.

The loss, coupled with victories for the Heathens and Pirates, pushed Kobs out of the top two.

The Blue Army went into the game as table leaders on 55 points, one ahead of the Heathens.

Brian Makalama’s side also dominated proceedings for the better part of the game, but all their points came from Joseph Aredo’s boot which was the same case in the first-round encounter between the two sides.

Heathens only made a few visits to the Kobs 22, but those produced two tries by Innocent Gwokto and Trevor Ochan.

Heathens are now in pole position in the title race, while Pirates moved to second with a 27-22 win over Jinja Hippos.
