The FAME Foundation has confirmed that no fewer than 11 women's teams will take part in the 2023 Women's Day Football Tournament.
According to the organisation, the competition is to commemorate International Women’s Day 2023, slated for March 8.
The tournament is an annual International Women’s Day football event, with this year's scheduled to take place at the Area 3 Football pitch, Garki Area 3, Abuja.
The teams
According to the FAME Foundation, a total of 11 women's football teams will go head-to-head on that day to determine the Women's Day champions.
Some of the teams set to take part include Team USA, Team Fame/AMAC, Team National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and Team Bet9ja.
Others are Team FEAAN, Team East Africa, Team Canada, Team North Africa, and those who haven't confirmed their participation.
Team NCWS is the defending champion of the previous competition, with Team Equality (US Embassy and British High Commission) as the runners-up.
The FAME
FAME Foundation is a gender-based not-for-profit organisation established solely to solicit, encourage and advance the social and emotional well-being of women and girls.
The foundation is also saddled with the formulation of programs within the framework of the national development plan to enhance the participation of women and advocate for gender parity in society.

In addition to the football games, the foundation will hold interactive educational sessions, and provide free eye tests, HIV tests, pap tests for cervical cancer and hepatitis screening.
