5-star Haaland pays glowing tribute to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry
It was a case of 'real recognises real' after Manchester City’s Erling Haaland paid a glowing tribute to Premier legend Thierry Henry.
This happened moments after the Norwegian striker inspired Manchester City to the quarterfinal of the Champions League on a remarkable night at the Etihad.
Haaland made history after he scored five goals to lead City to a 7-0 win over RB Leipzig during their Champions League round of 16 second leg match.
The English champions booked their passage to the last eight with an easy 8-1 aggregate victory to send the German side packing.
Haaland pays tribute to Henry
Following his remarkable performance against Leipzig, Haaland spoke to the CBS Sports Champions League crew led by former Premier League and Arsenal star, Henry.
Reacting to a question on what it feels like to score five goals from the presenter, Haaland started with words of praise for the Arsenal legend, who stood beside him.
“It is an amazing feeling,” Haaland said before turning to Henry to add, “I think you are the only one that knows how to score a lot of goals.”
Henry’s record at Arsenal and Premier League
Considered one of the best strikers to ever play the game in the Premier League and the world, Henry was a joy to watch during his time at Arsenal and in England.
He first joined Arsenal in 1999 from the Italian club, Juventus, before going on to break several club and league records during his first spell at the club which ended in 2007 when he joined Barcelona.
Henry was named the FWA footballer of the year a record three times, the Players’ player of the year, a joint record, two times and was included in the team of the year for six consecutive seasons.
He is also Arsenal’s all-time top scorer with 228 goals, 175 of them in the Premier League, the most by any player for the Gunners.
