64-year-old World Cup winner attends Ballon d'Or with 26-year-old girlfriend after divorcing 5 times

Lothar Matthäus turned heads in Paris on Monday when he arrived at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony alongside model Theresa Sommer, who is 26 years old.

 The 64-year-old German legend posed on the red carpet at the Théâtre du Châtelet with his arm confidently around Sommer, whose presence confirmed months of speculation about their relationship.

 According to Daily Mail, the couple have been spotted together in public several times this year, but this was the first appearance that left little doubt about their status.

Sommer, who is 38 years younger than Matthäus, is reported to have studied economics and management at King’s College in London before pursuing psychology at Durham University.,

Matthäus has often kept his personal life closely guarded, but on the night where Dembele was crowned the Ballon d’Or winner, the pair appeared to officially confirm their romance.

 Earlier this year, when asked about Sommer by German media, the World Cup winner replied only, “We came for skiing, and the rest is a private matter.” 

The age gap between Matthäus and Sommer has inevitably sparked debate, but public perception has always followed the football legend’s private affairs as closely as his triumphs on the pitch. 

The former Germany captain’s life away from the pitch has been as eventful as his career in football.

Matthäus has reportedly been married five times and is the father of four children. 

His first marriage was to Silvia in 1981, and together they had two daughters, Alisa and Viola, before divorcing in 1992. 

Later that year he welcomed a son, Loris, with his second wife, Swiss television presenter Lolita Morena. That marriage ended in 1999.

His third marriage to Marijana Čolić began in 2003 and ended officially in 2009. 

Shortly thereafter he married Ukrainian model Kristina Liliana Chudinova in 2008, though the marriage broke down quickly. 

His fifth and most recent marriage was to Russian native Anastasia Klimko in 2014. 

The couple had a son named Milan but divorced in 2021. 

Despite being spotted together at Munich’s Oktoberfest two years later, rumours of a reconciliation were short-lived when Matthäus appeared in public with Sommer.

As captain of West Germany, he lifted the World Cup in 1990 and won the Ballon d’Or the same year, cementing his place in history.
