Allan Okello: Yanga Boss Makes Big Promise to Uganda Cranes Starboy After Record Transfer to Morocco
As Uganda Cranes playmaker Allan Okello begins a new chapter of his career in Morocco, Tanzanian champions Yanga are not cutting ties completely.
Okello completed a big-money transfer to Moroccan side AS FAR Rabat last week with Yanga reportedly set to pocket $1.2 million (UGX4.4 billion) from his sale.
This represents a massive $900,000 (UGX3.3 billion) profit for the Tanzanian giants, who bought Okello for $300,000 (UGX1.1 billion) from Vipers Sports Club in December 2025.
Okello is also set to earn significantly in Morocco with his monthly salary of $15,000 (UGX55.6 million) at Yanga reportedly set to be more than double at AS FAR.
However, Yanga are not closing the door on the Ugandan international as club president Hersi Said has made it clear that the Dar es Salaam-based side will be following him keenly and ready to offer him an escape route if things do not go well in North Africa.

“Today, officially, we are going to sell our player Allan Okello. He has been part of this family, and today we are opening the door for him to go and look for greener pastures. But remember, Yanga is home, he will return here when we need him,” the Yanga boss said while confirming Okello’s departure.
The Yanga president has already demonstrated this given as Okello exits, the club has just welcomed back former fan favourite Stephane Aziz Ki, who left the club last year for Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, where he struggled before moving to big-spending Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli but also found the going tough.
Yanga moved quickly to rescue Ki from his ‘hell’ in North Africa and he is set to replace Okello who leaves the club after lighting up the Tanzanian Premier League with 14 goals in six months, helping them to a fifth straight league title.
While that offers Okello a soft landing, Okello will be keen to continue his remarkable form in Morocco as AS FAR look to win the league title that they last claimed in 2023 which will perhaps also earn him another big-paying transfer abroad in a few years.
