Rafael Leao opened his account for the new season in style, scoring in AC Milan’s 2-0 Coppa Italia win over Serie B side Bari.

But the Portuguese star’s joy was short-lived, as he picked up an injury that has ruled him out of Serie A clashes with Cremonese and Lecce, as well as Portugal’s squad for the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Leao has been training individually during the break, with the hope of returning fit and firing once domestic football resumes.

His comeback is expected to give a major boost to Massimiliano Allegri’s squad, who are counting on him to lead Milan’s attack in both league and Champions League campaigns.

“Ibrahimovic, Allegri Asked Me to Use Social Media Less”

The Italian press has also resurfaced Leao’s recent reflections on his social media habits—something Milan’s hierarchy, and senior figures like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, have reportedly been keen to address.

“Allegri and Ibrahimovic told me to use social media less,” Leao admitted during a Twitch live stream following Milan’s victory against Lecce.

The 25-year-old forward has occasionally courted controversy online, particularly last season when he clapped back at critics—including ex-Italy international Antonio Cassano.

While fans appreciated his honesty, Milan’s coaching staff believe his responses are best left for the pitch rather than Twitter or Instagram.

With Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United keeping close tabs on his situation, the forward’s ability to balance focus and form will be crucial.

For Milan, the hope is simple: a fully fit Leao, letting his football do the talking, could be the difference in a season that promises to be fiercely competitive.
