Nigeria suffered a shock defeat in the first leg of their AFCON 2023 qualifier against Guinea Bissau after Mama Samba Balde’s 29th-minute effort gave the Djurtus their first-ever win over the Super Eagles at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The loss saw Nigeria drop down the AFCON 2023 Group A standings to second place, behind Guinea Bissau who leapfrogged them thanks to the 1-0 win in Abuja.
