The coach of Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has expressed his disappointment over the result of the of the team's opening game againt Equatorial Guinea at the African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria share spoils against Equatorial Guinea
Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili could do nothing to prevent Equatorial Guinea from taking the lead against the run of play in the 36th minute, as Iván Salvador exquisitely guided the ball into the bottom corner.
Nigeria swiftly responded, and Victor Osimhen, the 2023 CAF Footballer of the Year, headed home Ademola Lookman's well-delivered cross.
Peseiro Satified with the performance of his players
But beyond the slightly disappointing result, Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is satisfied with the performance of his players.
“We hoped to win this match and we did everything to win. Our team was better than that of Equatorial Guinea but we lacked luck.
"I am not happy. I deserved to win, this draw doesn't suit us. Our team created a lot of chances but we didn't score. We hope that next time, even with fewer opportunities, we will score. We simply have to improve our finishing,” he said.
Nigeria will face Ivory coast on Thursday in second game of Group A.
