Akani Simbine Shares Why He is Untouchable on Relay Anchor Leg

South African sprinter Akani Simbine has sent a defiant message to his rivals following his brilliant run at the World Athletics Relays Championships.

Simbine was on the anchor leg as he led South Africa to the 4x100m relay gold in Guangzhou, China last weekend following a great run on the final stretch to catch up with his rivals and beat them at the tape.

Bayanda Walaza was on the first leg, handing the baton to Sinesipho Dambile, who then gave it to Bradley Nkoana, before Simbine brought it home in style.

It was South Africa’s first-ever 4x100m relay gold medal and while reliving the race, Simbine has sent a strong message to his track rivals.

“The thrill of the anchor leg! I will run you down,” Simbine posted on X regarding his remarkable speed.

The 29-year-old has been in great form this year, winning his first-ever medal at the World Indoor Championships, where he claimed bronze in Nanjing, China in March before running his first sub-10 in 100m, 9.90 seconds at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in April, and then 9.99 seconds and 9.98 seconds at Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond Leagues.
