“Ms. Nakimera joins Express Football Club with a strong commitment to excellence and a clear vision for the Club’s continued growth and transformation,” the club's announcement read.

Nakimera, who also serves as the vice president of the Uganda Sports Press Association and is a presenter for Bukedde TV, steps into the position previously held by Ashraf Miiro, who was suspended by FUFA over match-fixing allegations. She was selected for the top executive role over fellow candidate Sula Kamoga.

Her appointment places her at the helm of one of Uganda's most historic football institutions. Based at Wankulukuku Stadium, Express FC has long been considered a traditional powerhouse in the nation's football landscape.

As CEO, Nakimera will oversee strategic planning, commercial development, stakeholder relations, and operational restructuring. The club has framed these efforts as a push towards greater "sustainability and professionalism."

The board expressed confidence that her leadership will bring much-needed stability and competitiveness back to the club, both on and off the pitch.

Express has faced considerable administrative turnover in the last decade, with leadership structures frequently changing under various boards.

The CEO position has often been reorganised amidst broader reforms, reflecting a trend of restructuring across Ugandan club football rather than consistent, long-term leadership.

Founded in 1957, Express is one of Uganda's oldest clubs and has a rich history of success. However, its last Uganda Premier League title was in the 2011/12 season.

Since then, the team's performance has been inconsistent, with periods of strong contention mixed with mid-table finishes and rebuilding phases.

In recent campaigns, including the 2025/26 season, the "Red Eagles" have remained in the top flight but have struggled to mount a serious title challenge against clubs with superior financial resources and squad depth.

Nakimera's appointment is seen as a crucial step in resetting the club's direction, strengthening its commercial foundation, and re-engaging its passionate fanbase.

Club chairman Ssubi M. Kiwanuka welcomed the new CEO, stating that her arrival marks "a new era of unity, sustained success, and long-term growth" for Express FC.

The club is expected to announce further details of its strategic plan under Nakimera's leadership in the coming weeks as it prepares for the upcoming domestic season.
