Yanga won a record fifth straight Tanzanian Premier League crown, beating bitter rivals Simba SC by two points on Tuesday, and Okello played a huge part in the title triumph.

The former Viper SC attacking midfielder joined Yanga in January from the Ugandan champions and hit the ground running. At the end of the season, Okello had scored an incredible 14 goals and added eight assists, finishing just two behind Golden Boot winner Mossi Nduwumwe of Singida Black Stars.

This was an incredible achievement from a player who joined in the midseason transfer window and he has opened up about his impressive campaign.

“CHAMPIONS. All glory to the Most High. Joining @yangasc in Jan to lifting the title yesterday feels surreal,” Okello posted on Instagram on Wednesday.

“Huge thanks to our president, technical staff, teammates & our amazing fans for welcoming me into this great family. First of many. YANGA BINGWA.”

Okello has been a revelation for the Dar es Salaam-based giants in the just-concluded season and while he will lift his first title in Tanzania, he is also a champion in Uganda.

The 25-year-old Lira-born star is finishing the season with two league winner’s medals, having been awarded a Ugandan champion medal for his contributions to Vipers in the first part of the season, before guiding Yanga to the league crown in Tanzania.
