Omedi Salutes Raucous Hoima Support Following Crucial AFCON Qualifying Win Over Libya
Uganda Cranes attacker Denis Omedi has heaped praise on the passionate supporters in Hoima, crediting their vibrant backing for inspiring the national team to a landmark 1-0 victory against Libya in their AFCON 2027 qualification campaign.
The encounter marked the maiden international fixture at the newly-commissioned Hoima City Stadium, where the Cranes secured all three points thanks to a decisive first-half header from Arnold Vula.
Speaking after the final whistle, the Kitara FC talisman underscored how the electric energy radiating from the stands lifted the entire squad before the contest had even kicked off.
“The atmosphere was truly sensational,” Omedi remarked. “The fans turned up in massive numbers, and that gave us tremendous motivation from the warm-up session right through to the end of the match.”
Stepping onto the pitch in Hoima held special significance for Omedi. As a fan favourite with local top-flight side Kitara FC, representing the country in the Bunyoro region felt like a genuine homecoming.

“The fans provided an incredible environment and gave us the lift we needed,” he added. “We always feel supported whether we play at Namboole or here in Hoima. On a personal level, it felt like home because of my time with Kitara—I was back on familiar ground. Having the crowd turn out like that is exactly what you need as a player.”
Omedi, who entered the fray as a second-half substitute, also commended the latest additions to head coach Paul Put’s squad. He noted that the newly integrated players have added vital tactical flexibility and a sharper edge to the group.
“The new players have injected a fresh mentality that we had been lacking previously,” Omedi explained. “The squad has embraced them warmly, and we are eager to continue learning from one another.”
The hard-fought win momentarily elevated Uganda to the summit of Group H with four points from two outings, providing a strong platform towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
