In a decisive encounter with relegation implications, Akwa United received a massive boost after securing a vital victory against Lobi Stars to alleviate their relegation concerns.

The Promise Keepers defeated the high-flying Lobi side 1-0, with Seyi Oguntayo the hero of the day in Eket on Sunday.

The Uyo side started the day in relegation after what has been a turbulent campaign for the Fatai Osho Sugar Boys in the NPFL.

However, a spirited performance this time earned them a deserved win against title contenders Lobi, with Seyi as the hero.

The decisive winner arrived on the stroke of half-time, with United holding on to the lead till the end of the match.

For the Pride of Benue, the defeat dealt a huge blow to their title aspirations as they looked to close the gap between them and the teams ahead of them.

Lobi Stars, also known as Yes Father, had anything but a father this time on their trip to Eket, leaving as they arrived, emptyhanded.

Akwa United moved away from relegation with the win but remain in danger with just a single point separating them and 18th-placed Bayelsa United, who also sealed an important win against Enugu Rangers.
