‘Always Number One for Me’ – Oscar Winner Cillian Murphy Praises Ex-Manchester United Captain Roy Keane
Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy graciously concedes that he will never outshine former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.
Number one in Cork
Despite being a favorite for the Best Actor Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, Murphy humorously acknowledges Keane's enduring status as the most famous figure hailing from Cork.
When asked about being Cork's most well-known celebrity, Murphy playfully responded, “I mean, to me, no one will be more famous than Roy Keane coming out of Cork! I’m a big Roy Keane fan, so he’s always number one for me. Sorry, Graham!”
Reflecting on Achievements
During an appearance on RTE’s Morning Ireland, Murphy reflected on the praise and accolades he received for portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer in the film Oppenheimer.
The Cork star highlighted that Oppenheimer broke records at the box office, and his performance not only earned him several awards but also landed him on the front page of the latest issue of New Yorker Magazine.
Roy Keane’s Football Legacy
Murphy’s admiration for Keane is rooted in the football legend's remarkable career. Roy Keane, a former football player and coach, secured 19 major trophies, with 17 achieved during his illustrious tenure at Manchester United.
Keane's stellar record and global acclaim led to his inclusion in Pelé's FIFA 100 list of the greatest living players in history.
