Aston Villa draw sees worst start since 1989-90 season for Manchester United

The result extended the Red Devils’ winless streak to five games, leaving Ten Hag under increasing pressure as United face their worst start to a season in 24 years.

The draw against Aston Villa also marked a huge blow for Manchester United as they slumped to their lowest points tally in the opening seven matches of a league campaign since 1989-90.

With only two wins, two draws, and three losses, the Red Devils are stuck in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

This mirrors the club’s poor start during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign in 1989-90, where they finished 13th in the legendary manager’s worst league finish at Manchester United.

Ten Hag’s poor form uninspiring for club bosses

The Red Devils’ winless streak has now stretched to five matches in all competitions, with four of those ending in disappointing draws, and the lack of victories means that Ten Hag’s time at Manchester United could be coming to an end.

To make matters worse for Ten Hag, Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has refused to back the Dutchman after publicly distancing himself from decisions regarding ten Hag’s future.

While speaking at an event in Barcelona, Ratcliffe said, "I don’t want to answer that question. I like Erik. I think he’s a very good coach, but at the end of the day, it’s not my call.

“The management team running Manchester United has to decide how we best run the team in many different respects."

With a tough season ahead, the clock is ticking for Ten Hag to find solutions before Manchester United fall further from their ambitions or he gets the boot.
