Anthony Joshua: Nigerian-born boxer responds to challenge by Andre Ward

Anthony Joshua has responded to the undefeated former world champion Andre Ward, who called him out.

The 41-year-old American sensation Ward captured unified world titles at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight before retiring in 2017 with a perfect 32-0 record (16 KOs).

Additionally, Ward is now focused on Joshua after hinting at a potential rematch in recent years for the proper pay.

In an Instagram video Ward said, “One name that I’ve brought up before, that... when you say that name, I could see myself fighting him – present day today.

"If the business was right and everything was right on that front... Me and Anthony Joshua."

“That’s a fight that I would take at Wembley Stadium. It’s a dangerous fight for my legacy.

"it’s a dangerous fight across the board, but that’s a fight that would get me in the gym and get me in the mindset that I need to be in to go to war.”

Joshua who is 35, commented on the American's Instagram post, acknowledging Ward's callout.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the current undisputed super-middleweight champion, has made fun of a number of potential opponents over the years by claiming they desire the "pay day" that comes with facing him.

Although Ward is regarded as a current great, he would need to go back in time and lift his heaviest weight in order to face Joshua.

Joshua has only fought at heavyweight since going pro after taking home the gold at the 2012 Olympics.

But most recently, Joshua was defeated by then-IBF champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September, failing to reclaim his position as world champion.
